City (Updated)
A heavenly choir of engines
Fills the steepled night
Lit up by the holy stars
Of the building’s light
A dazzling puzzle of dull grey glass
Built up of words unsaid
Try to piece it all together
But it falls to pieces instead
All the people’s prayers for more
Answered by department stores
The owners strike fear in the masses
With threats of sales and taxes
If you listen closely,
On the sickly breeze
You can hear the quiet cries,
The softly muttered pleas:
Is there any blood inside
This whirring ticking heart?
Anything still alive
That hasn’t yet been torn apart?
Over shimmering fields of concrete
And great pluming clouds of fumes
Playing alone all down the streets
Children in fields of metal blooms
Past them, all their parents march
Over the dirt and weeds
Over the gleaming footpaths
Paved with hurt and greed
Looking from behind their screens
The eyes of the pure gaze out
Brought up for years by cold machines
With everything but love: They’ll do without.

A heavenly choir of engines
Fills the steepled night
Lit up by the holy stars
Of the building’s light
The fat owners in their gilded thrones
Sow fear in the masses
Put terror in trembling bones
With their threats of sales and taxes
The infinite arches of this false cathedral
Grow larger on their minds
It’s pillars of bolts and braces, TV screens and fake fireplaces,
So nauseatingly high as to make them blind
To the rest of the world outside
Is there any blood inside
This ticking heart at all?
Anything still alive
Behind these towering walls?
If you listen closely,
On the sickly breeze
You can hear the quiet cries,
The softly muttered pleas:
The reverently whispered prayers for more,
Being answered by the department stores.
And a wearied march of pilgrims
Goes onwards in their minds
Singing a near forgotten hymn
As they move towards a cold grey shrine
The only man that’s out at night
Walks alone, unaided
Calmly turning off the cars
Though he knows he will be hated

Short story: A Key, a Cog, and a Flower.
This is all that’s left. A tiny worn cog, a key, and a dried up flower. Its beauty has long since faded away, but its scent is still there, strong as the day I first stood here, under the dappled light of the fig tree. Except this time it is no longer part of a larger forest. It stands alone, an oasis of shade in this great expanse of dead lawn and dirt. I look down at the small collection of objects in my hand. It would be so easy to leave them behind, to forget how I came to have them, and to go on, start moving again. I look out to the edge, the end of the grass, where the shadows are, the concrete, the wire, the walls, where lives are being lived, anonymous, glazed over by the dull sheen of glass, separated, fighting, sighing, whirring, ticking. Living. And I know that I my heart won’t let me join them.
I pocket my burdens and sink deep into my mind.

I looked back too many times to count on that seemingly endless walk home. Phantom figures ran from behind me, dissol

What Have You Done?
Pages and pages of writing for you
Lie on my desk in the middle of the room
But no words come close and it all bleeds away
The ink a black river running off the page
You took a cog from my chest with precision and grace
Now my heart’s a broken metronome with your arms ‘round my waist
Pull my heart on a string like its some kind of game
Let me lose everything except for your name
Now what have you done
I’m not yours to control
But you made my heart explode
As I was pressed against that wall

Australia
I love painting, playing music and writing and I play violin and some other random instruments.
I'm in my final year at school, studying art and sciences among the usual subjects. I'm half Irish, half Australian.
Although I don't have much free time from studying, the time I do get I spend painting and watching Sherlock.
